Earlier this month, Times of India (TOI) launched a Teach India initiative after the success of Lead India. Teach India aims to act as an enabler to bring together children in need of education and people who can contribute by teaching them. What is interesting is that, this enables people to move away from passive volunteerism to being actively involved by keeping aside few hours every week to teach children through the participating NGOs.
TOI has currently tied up with NGOs in 4 main metro - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, and is seeking volunteers for the same. In addition it has also tied up with few corporates such as Genpact and Cognizant. According to TOI, it has recieved interest from over 50000 people in first ten days itself. Really heartening to see a good response, and waiting for TOI to extend it to more cities.
